About two weeks ago we jetted off like fancy people to the Caribbean to enjoy rum drinks, sunsets at the beach, lounging by the pool, sailing, snorkeling, and shopping. It was all very fabulous and glamorous – and it included a very handsome 6 month old hunk named Ace.
When we told friends that we were going to the Virgin Islands we got some strange looks when we mentioned that we were bringing the baby. To be exact this was actually a family trip to visit my husband’s family who recently moved there. My husband’s family that included our young nephew and niece! A baby was most welcome, which made it the perfect family vacation for us.
After a full day of flying (which included a 5 hour layover in Miami, ugh), we woke up the next morning in paradise. Saint Thomas to be exact. The first task of business: soaking in the view and jumping in the pool.
Ace was ready to go.
His first time in a swimming pool was pretty scary for him, but by the end of the week we had him playing in the water in an inflatable baby seat.
We also took him to the beach for the first time in the Virgin Islands. His first beach was Magen’s Bay on Saint Thomas.
The crash of the waves spooked him, but everything was fine once his father was holding him.
The next day we took the ferry over to St. John. We went to a beach called Trunk Bay, and it was gorgeous. We snorkeled and played in the sand and surf. Ace hung out on the shore, while his uncle watched him. The ferry ride and Ace skipping a nap or two was so worth it.
We also took a quick visit to some Dutch sugar mill ruins.
No makeup and nursing bra showing FTW!
Unfortunately, one of our best experiences in the Virgin Islands is was not photographically documented because we all left our cameras behind. We took a snorkeling excursion to Buck Island in a catamaran. The place we snorkeled at is called Turtle Bay because of all of the sea turtles. We saw plenty of those plus stingrays, coral, and lots of fish. We also had lots of time to jump off of the boat, swim, and lay out in the sun. All of this was possible due to my wonderful sister-in-law watching Ace that day!
One of my favorite experiences was the last night we had in St. Thomas. My brother-in-law took us to Secret Harbor to swim and watch the sunset. The water was so calm and warm, that Ace loved it too. It was breathtaking.
Our trip was amazing!! We can’t thank my brother-in-law and sister-in-law enough. They were the most gracious hosts and tour guides. It doesn’t get much better than being in paradise with family.
